2007 AKC Agility Nationals

It's April 2007 and Hemi and I just got home from the AKC Nationals in Ohio.  She had a great show!  This was Hemi's first year to attend and my second (sort of!).  In 2002, Moseley went and made the Finals with JP showing since I was on crutches.  I hoped Hemi could do as well as her sister!

Hemi started out rough with faults in both of Friday's classes, which luckily are scored separately as a "state tournament."  In reality, it's a warm-up for the real classes on Saturday and Sunday.  After her problems on Friday, she didn't have another fault for the whole show!

Our schedule was:  Round 1 Standard (Saturday), Round 2 JWW (Saturday), Round 3 Hybrid - which was Std without a dogwalk - (Sunday morning).  She had a really nice Rd 1, with an Aframe performance that I wish I could duplicate for the rest of her life!  Rd 2 was a good JWW, but my handling could have been better in one section.

After Rd 2, we were in 4th place overall behind 2 small very fast Border Collies jumping 16", and Luka, another Pyr Shep like Hemi.  I knew that if we could go clean in Rd 3, we would make the Finals.  I think I was more nervous for that run than any of the others!  The course was good for her and I just hoped she'd make her Aframe contact.  I watched the video about a million times from Rd 1 to see what I'd done to get the awesome contact so I could duplicate it.  I guess it worked!  She got her zone and had a great run.  I started crying when I got to the finish line because I knew that we'd be in the Finals.  When all the tabulation was over, Hemi finished in 2nd place out of 233 dogs in the three rounds.  WOW!!

The Finals course was flowing but with a challenging opening.  I opted for the "risky" route with shorter yardage.  Most people got through that okay, although a few dogs did take the off-course jump.

Hemi started out fast, too fast to make the turn to jump #3 and she did a terrible face plant.  The crowd groaned as she skidded on her face.  Hemi got up and kept going and I was watching to make sure she wasn't hurt.  She was a little slow for a few obstacles, but picked up speed as we went along.  We finished with a clean run but a slow time.  Still, she got 7th place and I'm SO PROUD of her!!!!

Congrats to Pyr Shep Luka
who won the 16" Class!!
