Europe Trip 2007 - Team Standard

This was our last run of the weekend.  I knew that our team was probably in a good spot (although we didn't find out we were in first place until the show was over), so I really wanted to run clean on this course.  We watched some of the course building and were so surprised when they put out the number cone at #5.  Yikes!!!

The small dogs ran first, and as predicted, it was a disaster for many.  If a back jump at #5 didn't get them, then a back jump at #6 did.  It was a really deep 270 and you had to work hard to get the dog to the far side of #6.  The tunnel after the Aframe was trouble with two openings and a jump right there.  In most cases, the handler was behind the dog coming off the Aframe because they had worked so deep in the pocket to get #6 right.  I watched a lot of dogs take the wrong end of the #8 tunnel because the handler was behind.  The threadle from #12 to #13

caused problems for others.  It was a tough course all over!
Hemi started out well to the dogwalk, although I found out later she was called on her contact.  We managed to get through the 5 to 6 section, it wasn't pretty, but it was clean.  I ran as hard as I could to get to the Aframe, but it was almost impossible in the deep sand.  I was worried that she'd pull toward me and take the wrong end of the tunnel, so I must have overcompensated because I pushed her over the #9/17 jump.  It was too late to stop her and we eliminated.  The rest of the course was great, she had a very tight line through the threadle and a lovely teeter.

In the end, three of the four team members E'd on this course, so our combined scores put us out of any placements for the Team
